An Application
Imagine 200,000 prisoners of war (POW) being returned to one town. Better than staying prisoners or slaves, but yikes. At least they had a good testimony of God's provision.
Connect the Dots
Jeremiah won't be a prophet for almost a century, but a comment he will make applied here too: JER 3:11. / God basically permitted a third civil war to bring judgment on Judah, thought it didn't last long. (The first was in Judges, after the Levite's concubine was raped and cut up, the second was after Saul and Jonathan died and Ishbosheth wanted to be king over David.) Sad state of affairs for both Israel and Judah. Our own nation is not doing a whole lot better.
